Elon Musk’s social media platform X has taken a big action in India. X Corp has banned more than 2 lakh accounts in India between 26 April and 25 May. Most of these accounts were being used for malicious activities. X has mentioned the banned accounts in its monthly compliance report and said that these accounts were violating the policies of X (formerly Twitter).
A total of 2,29,925 accounts have been banned on Musk’s social media platform X during this period. Most of these accounts were doing wrong things like child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Apart from this, 967 accounts on Elon Musk’s social media platform have been banned for promoting terrorism. In this way, Elon Musk has banned a total of 2,30,892 accounts between April 26 and May 25.
Thousands of complaints received
Microblogging platform X has taken this action in India as per the new IT Rules 2021. In its monthly report, X said that a total of 17,580 complaints were received on the social media platform during this period, which were resolved under the Indian Grievance Redressal Mechanism. According to the new IT Rules 2021, social media or online platforms with a user base of 50 thousand or more have to issue a compliance report every month, giving details of the action taken on any user’s account etc.
The company said that X has processed 76 such grievances in which there was a complaint of account suspension. X said that the suspension of any account has not been changed after reviewing it. These accounts will remain suspended in future as well. In India, complaints of hateful conduct have been received against most accounts (6,881). At the same time, 3205 complaints have been received regarding sensitive adult content and 2,815 complaints regarding abuses. Apart from this, the microblogging platform has banned 1,303 accounts for promoting terrorism.
