Three suspected dacoits were killed in two separate incidents of encounter with the police in Assam on Friday. Goalpara Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy said a gang of dacoits and murder accused was being tracked for the past one month. Acting on the basis of intelligence inputs, the police stopped a vehicle carrying betel nut at Agia in Goalpara at around 8.30 pm, he said.
When the occupants of the vehicle were asked to come out, they refused, following which the police opened fire on the tires of the vehicle, the official said. Suspected dacoits also allegedly opened fire, due to which the encounter started. Three suspected dacoits were injured in the encounter and two of them succumbed on their way to Goalpara Civil Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Shahjahan Ali and Sushen Ali.
‘I was shot when I tried to escape from custody’
At the same time, the second incident took place in Kokrajhar district, where a former LLFB extremist and currently leading the gang of dacoits was arrested in Chirang district. Police said he tried to escape from custody, during which he was injured by police bullets and was declared brought dead on being taken to the hospital.
