New Delhi. Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt club advanced to the Europa League semi-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona 3-2 in a match played at the Camp Nou. Barcelona’s first season in the European Championship without Lionel Messi went from bad to worse, as Spain’s top football club failed to progress through the quarter-finals of the second-tier Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League.
Barcelona were considered as the top contenders for the title, but the defeat shattered their dreams of winning the second-tier club tournament. Frankfurt will take on West Ham in the semi-finals. The Premier League club defeated Lyon 4–1 on aggregate to make it to the last four of a European competition for the first time since 1976.
Earlier, two goals from Christopher Nkunku helped Leipzig beat Atlanta 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time, where they will face Rangers. Rangers beat Braga 3-2 in another match.
