new Delhi. YSRCP Rajya Sabha member Vijayasai Reddy on Tuesday urged the Center to increase fertilizer subsidy at the earliest. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Reddy said farmers are badly affected by the increase in fertilizer prices.
On an average, the prices of various fertilizers have increased by 45 to 60 percent. This has increased the cost for the farmer’s produce.
Referring to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Reddy said it would further increase fertilizer prices as both these countries contribute 10 per cent of India’s fertilizer imports.
He said, “Fertilizer supply is going to be hit very badly. Ukraine and Russia contribute 10 per cent to India’s fertilizer imports. Fertilizer prices are similar to that of petrol and LPG. Another hike in fertilizer prices will cause farmers to lose money,” he said. The pain will increase.”
He said that the subsidy for fertilizers has come down in the Union Budget. He urged the government to increase the subsidy at the earliest.
