New Delhi. An FIR has been registered against BJP candidate Madhavi Lata, who is contesting from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat. The case has been registered at Malkpet police station under sections 171C, 186, 505(1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code and section 132 of the Representation of the People Act. The reason behind this FIR is a viral video of Madhavi Lata. In the video, she is seen checking the voter IDs of women sitting at the polling booth to cast their vote. During this, Madhavi Lata is also seen asking women to take off their burqa. It is being told that this video is from a polling booth in an old city of Hyderabad. However, ‘Dainik Jagran’ has not confirmed the authenticity of the viral video.
The BJP candidate has also clarified his stand regarding the viral video. She told news agency ‘ANI’, “I am a contestant, and as per the law, I have the right to check the voter ID cards of voters in my constituency and see them without burqa. I’m a female. Not a man. I requested him politely. I asked him if I could also meet you with my ID card. If someone wants to make a big issue of this incident, it is clear that they are scared.”
