Rain and Landslide in China
Beijing: Heavy rains have caused havoc in southern China on Tuesday. At least nine people have died due to landslides caused by heavy rains. Due to rain and landslides, electricity has been disrupted in many villages and crops have been completely destroyed. While rain is wreaking havoc in southern China, the northern part of the country is facing drought.

Heavy rains began on Sunday and 372.4 millimetres of rain was recorded during the last 24 hours. Officials said at least 378 houses collapsed and 880 hectares (2,175 acres) of crops were destroyed in the county, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Wuping has suffered economic losses of at least 57.2 million US dollars. Four people have died and two others are missing due to torrential rains in Wuping county of the coastal province of Fujian.
Circumstances are horrific
At least five people were killed and over 100 injured after a landslide triggered by heavy floods hit Meizhou city in southern Guangdong province bordering Hong Kong. Local media reported that 15 people were missing. More than 130,000 homes in Meizhou were without power while some neighbouring towns and villages were still without electricity on Monday. Three helicopters and over 200 rescue teams were searching for the missing and delivering aid to the affected areas, according to local authorities. (AP)
