Ranchi. Former MP Rabindra Kumar Rana, convicted in the fodder scam, died on Wednesday during treatment at AIIMS Delhi. He was taken to AIIMS a day earlier on Tuesday from RIMS Ranchi via air ambulance. He breathed his last at around 3.30 pm. It is being told that RK Rana died due to multi organ failure.
On March 15, after his health deteriorated in Ranchi’s Hotwar Jail, Rana was admitted to RIMS in Ranchi. here, he was kept on ventilator. Seeing his deteriorating condition, the medical board referred him to AIIMS on Tuesday.
Rana had been a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the 14th Lok Sabha from the Khagaria parliamentary constituency in Bihar. He had also been a minister in the Bihar government.
RK Rana was convicted by the court on February 21 for illegal withdrawal of Rs 139 crore from Ranchi’s Doranda treasury. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60 lakh. Lalu Prasad Yadav has also been sentenced to five years in the same case. Earlier, he was also punished in the case of illegal withdrawal of 89 crores from Deoghar treasury.
