Chennai. The England Cricket Board had instructed its players to return to their country in the middle of the Indian Premier League. Former captain Michael Vaughan believes that England made a mistake by calling back its cricketers from the IPL to play the T20 series against Pakistan. They could not get the experience of playing under pressure in the playoffs, which would have been useful in the T20 World Cup.
England captain Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), Phil Salt (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Will Jacks (Royal Challengers Bangalore) were recalled by the England and Wales Cricket Board for the four-match T20 series against Pakistan, which was criticized by former Indian cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar. Royal Challengers Bangalore were knocked out of the playoffs after losing to Rajasthan in Eliminator 1. Sunrisers Hyderabad team knocked out Rajasthan in a one-sided match by defeating them in Eliminator 2.
Vaughan said in the Club Prairie Fire podcast, “International cricket comes first but the pressure in IPL is no less than that. The pressure that these players have to face from fans, owners and social media is huge. England deprived the players of the experience of that pressure by calling them back. The preparations would have been much better with the pressure of IPL playoffs, the pressure of the audience than playing T20 against Pakistan.”
2 dangerous batsmen will play IPL Final on his birthday, 1 will win the trophy and the other will surely lose
He further said, “Especially Salt and Jacques would have got a lot to learn and their preparation would have been stronger. I am not insulting the Pakistan or England team but there is a lot of pressure in the IPL and its level is better than that bilateral series.”
