An official informed that on Wednesday, Wankhede along with his lawyer reached Thane’s Kopri police station at around 11.30 am to record his statement and he was interrogated for more than eight hours, he left the police station around 5.30 am. . He also refused to comment on the ED’s action against Nawab Malik.
Police in Maharashtra had registered an FIR against Wankhede in 1997 for alleged forgery and willful misrepresentation while obtaining a liquor license for his restaurant and bar in Navi Mumbai.
Interestingly, Wankhede was questioned by the police on the same day the Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogated and later arrested Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik in Mumbai in a money laundering case. NCP leader Malik had earlier leveled several allegations against Wankhede, including using forged documents to get government jobs.
