New Delhi. A vigorous and interesting debate has been seen in the court regarding the food of Delhi’s jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. On one hand, Central Investigation Agency ED claimed that Kejriwal was deliberately eating such food which increases his sugar level. This will make it easier for them to get bail on the basis of illness. Kejriwal has refuted ED’s claim before a Delhi court that he is continuously eating mangoes and sweets to increase his blood sugar.
Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in front of Judge Kaveri Baweja that ‘food was sent to Kejriwal from home in jail 48 times, out of which mangoes were sent only three times. Singhvi said that he wants to conduct a media trial of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in this matter. Mangoes have been described as sugar bullets. Whereas the sugar level in them is much lower than that of brown rice or white rice. The lawyer of the Aam Aadmi Party leader said that the ED is behaving frivolously by giving such ridiculous arguments in front of the trial court.
On behalf of Kejriwal, Singhvi said, ‘I use only sugar-free in my tea. How petty, political and ridiculous can ED get? His statements are completely false and malicious. Just because you have a lot of influence in the media, you are able to publish what I am doing. Aloo Puri, although this food was sent once during a puja… We have had democracy for 75 years but I am seeing this kind of attitude for the first time.
The ED alleges that Arvind Kejriwal is deliberately eating mangoes and sweets in jail to increase his blood sugar level to get bail. Advocate Zoheb Hossain, appearing for the ED, had made this allegation on Thursday while replying to Kejriwal’s plea for regular medical checkup to monitor his sugar level. Hossain remained firm on ED’s concerns even in the subsequent hearing. It is noteworthy that Arvind Kejriwal was arrested last month in the Delhi Liquor Policy case.
