Expansion
The central government has already abolished the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders two years ago. Although it has now been disclosed. The country’s Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain said on Thursday that no subsidy is being given on LPG since June, 2020, after the onset of the Corona epidemic in the country. He said, now only 9 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme are being given a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder, which was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in May.
Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who was present in the conversation with the media, said that the subsidy is designed in such a way that it should gradually decrease and not increase. LPG prices have increased by 7 per cent in the last six months, while Saudi CP (the benchmark for setting LPG prices) has increased by 43 per cent in the same period, he said. That’s the truth. Due to our strong policies, we keep our consumers safe from the volatility of the international market.
no official order
The government abolished the subsidy on petrol in 2010 and on diesel in 2014. The subsidy on kerosene was abolished in 2016. And now the subsidy on cooking gas has ended. However, unlike petrol-diesel and kerosene, no official order was issued to abolish LPG subsidy.
30.5 crore LPG connections
