When Sachin Tendulkar, who is called the God of Cricket, scored the first double century in ODI cricket against South Africa at the Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior in 2010, no one would have imagined that the path he had opened would be difficult for future generations. Many other batsmen of the world will also follow in time. Sachin had scored only 200 runs, after this even bigger innings were played. But the interesting thing is that after this many double centuries came in the first innings of ODI only. But in the year 2023, Glenn Maxwell also did a feat which had never happened before.
Lots of centuries scored in the first innings of ODI
Actually, the double century that Sachin Tendulkar scored in ODI came in the first innings of the match. After this, many batsmen from Virender Sehwag to Ishan Kishan scored double centuries. India’s Rohit Sharma scored many double centuries. But even after this no double century was scored in the second innings of the match. Glenn Maxwell also did this in the 2023 ODI World Cup. That too in the World Cup. He played an unbeaten inning of 201 runs in the second innings of the match against Afghanistan at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Glenn Maxwell broke the record of Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman
Talking about this, the best score in the second innings of ODI was 193 runs, which was scored by Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman against South Africa in the year 2021. Now the best score of the second innings is 201 runs, which was scored by Glenn Maxwell. This had never happened before and has never happened after this.
Waiting for another double century in the second innings of ODI
Just as Sachin Tendulkar surprised the whole world by not scoring a double century in ODIs, Maxwell also did the same thing. It has to be seen that just as many double centuries were scored in the first innings of the ODI, similarly will double centuries start being scored in the second innings of the match or will we have to wait longer for it.
