New Delhi. Afghan diplomat Zakia Wardak posted in Mumbai resigned from her post after allegations of gold smuggling. However, he has given the reason for resignation as a personal matter. Indian Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized about 25 kg of gold from Zakia Wardak, Consulate General of Afghanistan Consulate at Mumbai Airport. Its price in the international market is said to be around Rs 18 crore.
However, Zakia has not been arrested in the gold smuggling case because being a foreign diplomat, Zakia has got diplomatic protection, hence he cannot be arrested. In such cases, the concerned country is expected to take action against them. In this case, Zakia says that such allegations are being made in an attempt to defame her. He said that I served my country, worked for positive change but considering the current situation, I have now taken the difficult decision to resign from my post.
Let us tell you that this incident took place on April 25, when Afghan female diplomat Zakia Wardak reached Mumbai from Dubai with her son. DRI officials had received intelligence about gold smuggling. In such a situation, DRI had deployed many of its officers at Mumbai Airport. As soon as the female diplomat was leaving the airport after landing at the Mumbai airport, DRI officials stopped the female diplomat and her son. When DRI officials asked the diplomat about such goods which attract custom duty, the diplomat denied having such goods with him. After this, the officers took them apart and searched them and found about 25 kg of gold from them.
