The coming Friday i.e. May 13 is very important for the Congress party. Apart from Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, several senior party leaders will visit Udaipur in Rajasthan. Along with this, a three-day brainstorming session is also to be organized. This session has been named ‘Chintan Shivir’. After favoring election strategist Prashant Kishor, the party is taking big decisions but Delhi is still far away. The fight in Congress is not just about electoral victory, but to boost the party leaders and win back the trust of the workers. Party sources say that this time Sonia Gandhi does not want to take the Chintan Shivir as a mere meeting ritual, which is why the Congress Party has started adopting the formula of one leader one post before the Chintan Shivir. Know more what it is Contemplation camp…
The Congress is currently facing challenges on the political, economic and organizational fronts. To strengthen its political future, a three-day brainstorming conference is going to be held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This is not the first time that the Congress party has gone back on the board to strategize after an election defeat or before a major challenge, it has happened before but the results did not show up on the ground. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether this time also the meeting of the Congress party will be limited only to the rituals or some big change will come out.
What is this meditation camp?
Party President Sonia Gandhi had said during the Congress Working Committee meeting that around 400 Congress members would attend the ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur from May 13 to 15 and stressed on the message of every leader holding a party post. He said the party has made every effort to ensure balanced representation from all angles.
what can happen
As per the Economic Times report, the Chintan Shivir will pave the way for the revival of the Congress Parliamentary Board (CPB). The AICC will decide on granting only one ticket per family to the PCC and DCC after their first full term and mandating a cooling-off period of three years for office-bearers. In the brainstorming session, a proposal to cut the Congress Committee panel will also be put up.
It is believed that the party’s proposal of one family-one ticket has come after the BJP’s allegations of dynasticism. The three-day camp will decide whether the proposals are accepted or rejected through discretionary powers to the top leadership.
The Economic Times reported that the BS Hooda-led panel on farmers’ issue will propose that future Congress governments enact a central law for legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP). The panel wants to make purchase of agricultural products from the open market at below the MSP rate “a punishable offence” and fix future export/import duty rates by protecting the domestic market interests of farmers.
what does sonia want
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday asserted that Chintan Shivir should not become a ritual one has to undergo. “I request your full cooperation in ensuring that the message that comes out clearly and clearly from Udaipur is one of unity, solidarity, determination and commitment for the speedy revival of our party,” she said. ”
He emphasized the need for the party to unite and reminded everyone that now is the time for party leaders to “pay their debt to the party”. “I am determined that it should usher in a restructured organization to meet the many ideological, electoral and managerial challenges,” he said.
Speaking at the CWC meeting, he made a categorical appeal to those seeking a change in the Congress, saying that criticism is fine, but it should not be to the extent of demoralizing the party.
According to The Indian Express, between 1996 and 2004, when the Congress was in opposition, the party organized two contemplation camps, one AICC session and two AICC special sessions, in Pachmarhi in 1998 and in Shimla in 2003. While in power from 2004 to 2014, the party organized five conferences – a Chintan Shivir in Jaipur, two AICC sessions, a plenary and a special session.
However, in the last eight years, arguably the toughest time in the party’s history, the Congress has held only one national convention, the 2018 AICC Plenary Session in Delhi.
