Google has once again been accused of secretly spying on users. For this the company may have to pay a fine of 5 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 41 thousand crores. Tech company Google has been accused of secret tracking of users’ data. The surprising thing is that the private browsing i.e. Incognito mode is used by the users to search anything, so that their browsing remains safe. Google has been accused of tracking the data of that incognito mode. The California Court of America has asked Google to present the settlement document of the case in the court by February 24, 2024, otherwise Google will have to pay a heavy fine.
What is the matter?
This lawsuit against Google was filed in 2020. The company is accused of spying on users through Google analytics, cookies and apps. Google tracks users’ likes, dislikes, friends, hobbies, favorite foods, and even shopping habits. This spying is done when users search anything through Google search. Although Google has tried to dismiss this case several times before, the court rejected Google’s appeal to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Justice Rogers of California Court said that this lawsuit was filed in the year 2020. Since June 1, 2016, lakhs of users have been made party. If Google does not settle this matter within the stipulated time, then it will have to pay at least 5 thousand dollars compensation to each user.
This is not the first case when Google has been accused of spying on users. Even before this, many such allegations have been made against Google. US Senator Ron Wyden has alleged that Google also spies on users through push notifications.
