new Delhi. These days the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir is not good. Ever since Kashmir was declared a Union Territory, the government has been continuously targeting separatist leaders. Now the State Investigation Agency of Jammu and Kashmir has taken major action against Syed Ali Geelani, former chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) in Barjulla, Srinagar. The probe agency has attached at least 20 properties, including some in those names. Properties have been attached in various districts of Kashmir on the probe of the State Investigation Agency (SIA). Raids were also conducted in Budgam, Magam, Pulwama, Awantipora, Kulgam and Srinagar districts of Kashmir Valley. The Srinagar District Magistrate (DM) had already ordered the sealing of three properties of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Let us tell you that the order given by the DM in Kashmir included a two-storey residential house registered in the name of Syed Ali Shah Geelani at Barjulla, Srinagar, which is more than 17 marlas. Notably, the SIA has identified 188 Jamaat-e-Islami properties in Jammu and Kashmir which have either been notified or are in the process of being notified for further legal action.
Along with this, Kashmiri officials informed that it is understood that this house was bought by Jamaat-e-Islami in the 1990s and it was registered in the name of Geelani (JEI). He said Geelani lived in the house till early 2000 and then moved to Hyderpora area of the city. He passed away in September last year. According to officials, the house was later used as the residence of the Ameer (chief) of the JEI. He said that the SIA had also decided to attach another residential house in Barjula area.
