Extreme heat in Delhi NCR: Even though people in Delhi-NCR got relief from the scorching sun on Thursday, but the outbreak of severe heat continues in other parts of the country including Ghaziabad. In Ghaziabad, 30 people have died in the last 3 days due to heat stroke. If we talk about Delhi, there have been reports of 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. Thus, 110 people have lost their lives so far due to heat wave and intense heat across the country.
In Ghaziabad, the number of deaths in the district hospital has increased in the last few days. There are some patients who were brought to the hospital in a dead state, while some died due to diseases like diarrhea. After the increasing number of deaths in the hospital, it can be said that somewhere they died due to heat wave or sunstroke.
Chief Medical Superintendent Rakesh Kumar said that 9 people have died while the death of 6 people has been confirmed on Thursday morning. And there are some people who have refused to get the post-mortem of the dead done.
17 people died in Delhi in 24 hours
In Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia- RML and Safdarjung hospitals, 17 people who fell ill due to suspected heat have died in the last 24 hours. Delhi has been experiencing severe heat for the past few days. However, light rain on Thursday morning has brought some relief to the city residents.
The number of patients falling ill due to the scorching heat is increasing in Delhi hospitals. According to the officials of Safdarjung Hospital, 33 patients who fell ill due to heat have been admitted. They said that 13 out of 33 patients have died in the last 24 hours.
According to information received from RML Hospital, 22 people who fell ill due to suspected heat were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, out of which four have died.
Over 40,000 cases of heatwave across the country
The intense heat that lashed large parts of the country between March 1 and June 18 has claimed the lives of at least 110 people and over 40,000 people suffered from heat stroke, Health Ministry sources said.
According to data released by the National Centre for Disease Control under heat-related illness and death surveillance, Uttar Pradesh is the worst affected. About 36 people have died here due to heat wave and heat stroke.
Most parts of North and East India have been reeling under severe heatwaves for a long time, leading to an increase in deaths due to heat stroke.
Health Minister J.P. Nadda directed that ‘special heat wave units’ be started in all government hospitals.
