Heat is wreaking havoc across the country. Due to the scorching heat, many people are falling ill and the condition of common people is also bad. There is a possibility of heat wave in North-West India during the next five days and its maximum impact is expected to be on Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information on Thursday. Apart from this, the summer season will also start in Eastern and Central India from May 18.
The weather office issued an ‘orange alert’ for Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi, stressing “health concerns” for children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases and those living in poverty. The warning states that there is a possibility of increase in heat-related diseases in people who stay in the sun for a long time or do heavy work.
Yellow alert in eight states
IMD said, “Severe heat waves are likely to prevail over parts of western Rajasthan during May 17-20 and Punjab, Haryana and Delhi during May 18-20.” The temperature in the national capital is expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius by Saturday. could reach. ‘Yellow alert’ has been issued for East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. The weather office had earlier predicted that the number of heat wave days in the plains of North India and Central India will be more than normal in May.
Two people died in Kerala
Heat waves generally last for about three days in May in the northern plains, central India and adjoining areas of peninsular India. This time in April itself, maximum temperatures broke records in East, North-East and South Peninsular India. So much so, that government agencies had to issue health warnings and many states closed classes in schools. At many places the maximum temperature in April reached 47 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature so far in April. At least two people died due to suspected heat stroke in Kerala.
