Heat wave conditions will intensify in Delhi from Wednesday. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the maximum mercury can reach 42 degree Celsius by Saturday. Meanwhile, people remained troubled due to heat wave in many parts of Delhi on Monday. The sun started pricking Delhi from 11 o’clock onwards and the heat wave was felt. The day’s maximum temperature at Safdarjung Meteorological Center was recorded at 38.1 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 19 degree Celsius. The humidity level here ranged from 66 to 18 per cent. At the same time, there were many areas of Delhi where the mercury was recorded beyond 40 degrees even on Monday. Severe heat wave conditions continued in these areas. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the people of Delhi will get some relief from heat wave on Tuesday.

The people of Delhi are not getting relief from the polluted air. Delhi’s air quality index remained in the poor category on Monday. SAFAR estimates that there is not much improvement in the air quality even between the next two days. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality index stood at 262 on Monday. This level of air is classified as poor. The index stood at 245 on Sunday.
There are many areas of Delhi where the air quality index is above 300 i.e. in the very poor category. SAFAR expects that the air quality level will remain around the same for the next two days due to low wind speed.
Action plan will be ready to deal with pollution
A fourteen-point action plan will be prepared to tackle pollution in Delhi. All the departments of Delhi will submit their plans on these fourteen points to the Environment Department. Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that like the ‘Winter Action Plan’, a ‘Summer Action Plan’ will also be prepared to deal with pollution in Delhi. Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a meeting with officials of different departments on Monday to reduce the level of pollution in Delhi. The steps to be taken to check pollution during winter were discussed in the meeting.
Rai said in a press conference held after the meeting that a winter action plan is being prepared every year in Delhi to tackle winter pollution. But, this time a summer action plan is also being prepared. Work will be done according to this plan from April to September.
