Advocate Anas Tanveer tweeted and said, ‘Met my clients in Udupi on the Hijab controversy. Insha Allah we will go to Supreme Court soon. Hopefully these girl students will be able to continue their studies with their right to wear hijab. There is still hope of these girl students on the courts and the Constitution.
Let us tell you that the dispute which started from Udupi College in Karnataka reached the High Court. The High Court gave an important decision in this matter. The court said that wearing hijab is not an essential practice of Islam. Saying this, the High Court dismissed the petition challenging the ban on hijab in educational institutions. The court also said that uniform is necessary in schools and colleges.
The High Court bench was hearing the matter on a day to day basis. The court had already said that girls should not wear hijab in schools and colleges till the order is passed. On 23 February itself, the court had made it clear that the dress code is applicable in degree and PU colleges as well.
