The principal of a law college in Palghar district of Maharashtra has resigned alleging she was harassed by the management for wearing a hijab. However, the administration of the institute has denied the allegation. In her resignation letter, Batul Hameed, who was working as the principal of ‘Viva College of Law’ in Virar, claimed that she was leaving the post as she was feeling uncomfortable and suffocated.
Hameed claimed that wearing hijab was never an issue earlier, but it has become an issue only after the controversy surrounding the hijab in Karnataka. He has alleged that the college management had instructed other staff members not to cooperate with him and even his personal assistant was not helping him in his routine work.
However, the college management rubbished the allegations saying that many girl students of Dawoodi Bohra community wore hijab and they never objected to it.
