The Chhattisgarh High Court has given its decision in the matter of getting married after converting religion. The Hindu girl, who married a Muslim youth, had given a statement in the court that she had converted to religion of her own free will. After this, the court has given the decision to the girl to live with her husband.

In fact, the wife of Mohammad Irfan, a resident of Basna in Mahasamund, had left him after a quarrel. After this Irfan married a Hindu girl. According to Dainik Bhaskar, after this the girl’s father had complained to the police station. When the police got the complaint, they sent the girl to Nari Niketan. At the same time, when the matter was not heard anywhere, the Muslim man filed a habeas corpus petition. He told that his wife had got married after converting to religion of her own free will. But the girl’s father had escalated the quarrel by giving it a communal form.

The matter was heard in a bench of Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice Gautam Chordia. During the hearing, it was learned that Irfan was already married and has two children. But after some dispute, the wife started living separately and in the meantime he had an affair with a Hindu girl. After the marriage of both, the girl’s father filed a petition that the second marriage could not take place without the consent of the first wife. The question also arose whether maintenance was being given to the first wife or not. Irfan replied in the High Court that he is providing maintenance to his wife. Thereafter, the court had reserved the decision. Later the Hindu girl appeared in the court through video conferencing and gave a statement that she had converted and married of her own free will.
