New Delhi: The population of Hindus has decreased in India. According to the report, the population of Hindus in India has declined by 7.8 percent, while the population of Muslims has increased by 43 percent. This has been revealed in the report of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. According to the report, a study has shown that the population share of Hindus in India has declined sharply by 7.8% between 1950 and 2015, while many of India’s neighboring countries have seen a surge in the population of their majority community. The Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council studied the trends of 167 countries around the world in its report. This report was released in May 2024.
According to the report, while on one hand the population share of majority Hindus in India has decreased, on the other hand the population share of other minorities including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Sikhs has increased. However, the number of Jains and Parsis has decreased. In the period between 1950 and 2015, the Muslim population in India has increased by 43.15%, while Christians have seen 5.38%, Sikhs 6.58% and Buddhists have seen a marginal increase. The Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council has studied the changes in population between 1950 and 2015 i.e. 65 years.
According to India Today report, according to the report of EAC-PM i.e. Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, the share of Hindus in India’s population declined from 84% in 1950 to 78% in 2015, while in the same period (65 years) that of Muslims increased. The stake has increased from 9.84% to 14.09%. The population of majority i.e. Hindus in India has decreased by 7.8 percent. Like India, in the neighboring country Myanmar too, a decline of 10% has been recorded in the majority population. The condition of Nepal is also similar, where its majority (Hindu) population has declined by 3.6 percent.
Whereas, if we talk about other neighboring countries of India where Muslims are in majority, the majority population of Bangladesh has increased by 18.5 percent. Similarly, the majority population (Muslim) has increased by 3.75 percent in Pakistan and 0.29 percent in Afghanistan. Apart from this, Maldives has recorded a decline of 1.47 percent in its majority population (Sunni). The majority population has increased in India’s two neighboring countries, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. In Bhutan the majority population has increased by 17.6 percent and in Sri Lanka by 5.25 percent. Let us tell you that people of Buddhism are in majority in Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
