Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma claimed that the people of the minority community of Bangladeshi origin voted in large numbers for the Congress. Along with this, he also alleged that this is the only community in Assam which is involved in communalism.
Speaking at a felicitation function for the winning candidates of BJP and its allies at the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati on Saturday, he said people from the minority community voted overwhelmingly for the Congress without considering the development work done for them by the BJP-led governments at the Centre and the state.
Along with this, he said, ‘The ruling coalition got about 47 percent votes, while the Congress and its allies got 39 percent votes. The BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance won 11 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while the remaining three seats were won by Congress.’

Sharma claimed, ‘If we analyse the 39 per cent votes of Congress, it has not come from the entire state. 50 per cent of it has come from 21 assembly constituencies, which are minority dominated areas. BJP got three per cent votes in these minority dominated areas.’
The Chief Minister said, ‘This proves that Hindus are not involved in communalism. If anyone in Assam is involved in communalism, it is only one community, one religion. No other religion does this.’
