New Delhi. Tipu Sultan became a Muslim Sultan in Karnataka. In history, Tipu Sultan has been described as great for fighting the British. During the time of Vineet Tipu Sultan, there used to be Salaam Aarti in all the temples of Karnataka. Now the “Salaam Aarti” in all the temples of Karnataka will now be known as “Sandhya Aarti”. The apex government body that oversees Hindu temples on Saturday approved a six-month-old proposal. In this, it has been approved to change the name of this tradition, which was called by the Persian name since the reign of Tipu Sultan, to Sanskrit. Kasekodi Suryanarayan Bhat, a member of the State Religious Council and scholar, had earlier said that these names were imposed on Hindu temples during Tipu’s reign.
Along with this, he had also said that the word Salaam is not ours. The Mandya district administration in the BJP-ruled state handed over the name change proposal received from the historic Chaluvanarayan Swamy temple at Melkote to the council. The Melkot temple was conducting “Salaam Aarti (Torch Salute)” every day at 7 pm since the reign of Hyder Ali and son Tipu. After this decision taken on Saturday, the Department of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Muzrai) of Karnataka is now waiting for the final approval from CM Basavaraj Bommai.
Let us tell you, after this an official order will be issued to change the name of Aarti not only in Melkote but in all the temples of Karnataka. Talking more about this, Shashikala Jole said, “The demand to change these Persian names is very old. There was a demand to give it a traditional Sanskrit name like Mangalarati Namaskar or Aarti Namaskar. If we look at the history, we have brought back what used to be in vogue earlier.
