This morning India had to face a bad news from the hockey venue. Former India hockey captain and veteran player Charanjit Singh passed away from this world. The passing away of Charanjit, who was a symbol of the golden era of Indian hockey, is very bad news for the entire sporting place. Charanjit has been a part of many memorable victories of the country.

Let us tell you that Charanjit Singh, who won the gold medal for India under his captaincy in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, was 92 years old and died in Una, Himachal Pradesh due to prolonged illness. Arjuna Award and Padma Shri awardee Charanjit Singh was part of the silver medal winning team at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Two years later, Charanjit Singh also played an important role in India’s silver medal in the Asian Games. Born on 22 November 1930 in Mary village of Una, Charanjit studied at Punjab University and Brown Cambridge School. After retirement, Charanjit was the Director of Physical Education Department at Himachal University.
Let us tell you that India lost to Pakistan in the final of Rome Olympics-1960. Charanjit Singh, who became the captain in 1964, once again made the team champion. In the next Olympics, Charanjit took his revenge by defeating Pakistan 1–0 in the final under his captaincy. When Charanjit Singh returned to the team, he was warmly welcomed by the crowd of fans at the airport.
