Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi, who took oath as a Lok Sabha member with a copy of the Constitution in his hand, will be the Leader of the Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha. Rahul, who has so far avoided any major responsibility, is going to hold a constitutional post for the first time in his 20-year political career. The India Alliance has also approved his name and Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi has also sent a letter to the Protem Speaker in this regard.
Why is this post very important?
Rahul is now going to get the important responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition, his role will become bigger in this position. He will be able to review the economic decisions of the government and will also be able to comment on the decisions of the government. Rahul Gandhi will also become the head of the Public Accounts Committee, which examines all the expenses of the government and also comments after reviewing them.

Rahul Gandhi will have these rights-
- Rahul Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition, will now also be a part of the committee that appoints the CBI Director, CVC i.e. Central Vigilance Commissioner, Chief Information Commissioner, Lokpal or Lokayukta, Chairperson and members of the National Human Rights Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.
- In all these appointments, Rahul, as the Leader of Opposition, will sit at the same table where PM Modi will sit and this will be the first time when the Prime Minister will have to take consent from Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in these decisions.
- After becoming the Leader of the Opposition, he will be able to continuously review the economic decisions of the government and will also be able to comment on the decisions of the government.
- The biggest thing is that Rahul will be included in the main committees of the Parliament as the Leader of the Opposition and he will have the right to continuously review the functioning of the government.
Gandhi family got the post of Leader of Opposition for the third time
Rahul’s activity will increase inside the Lok Sabha as well and he can be seen speaking on important issues with the same attitude as he has been seen in the past days. Yesterday, Rahul was also vocal on the demand of giving the post of Deputy Speaker to the opposition. Nehru-Gandhi family has got the post of Leader of Opposition for the third time. Before Rahul, his mother Sonia Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi have also been the Leader of Opposition. Sonia Gandhi has played the responsibility of Leader of Opposition from October 1999 to February 2004, whereas Rajiv Gandhi has been the Leader of Opposition from 18 December 1989 to 24 December 1990.
Rahul has been an MP from Amethi thrice and from Wayanad once
Rahul, who has been active in electoral politics since 2004, has become an MP for the fourth time. He has been an MP from Amethi thrice and from Wayanad once, but Rahul has not held any position in Parliament or government till now, whereas Congress was the ruling party at the Centre from 2004 to 2014. However, Rahul has played an important role in the Congress organisation. He has been in charge of Youth Congress and NSUI. Rahul was made the Congress Vice President in 2013 and the party president in 2017. After the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Rahul resigned from the post of president. Rahul had become very active much before the Lok Sabha elections. He took over the leadership of the party with Bharat Jodo Yatra, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and Samvidhaan Bachao Abhiyan during the election campaign.
