New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offered her a ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, he rejected the offer to contest the elections due to shortage of money. The minister said that BJP chief JP Nadda had given him the option of contesting elections from Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu.
Nirmala Sitharaman is a member of Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. While speaking during the Times Now Summit, she said, “After thinking for a week or 10 days, I just went back to say… maybe not. I don’t have that much money to contest elections. I too have a problem, whether it is Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. It will also be a question of the different winning criteria they use…are you from this community or are you from that religion? Are you from here? I said no, I don’t think I can do it.”

‘Only my budget is mine…’
The Finance Minister said, ‘I am very grateful that he accepted my argument…that is why I am not contesting the elections.’ When he was asked why even the Finance Minister of the country does not have enough money to contest the Lok Sabha elections, he said that the Consolidated Fund of India does not belong to him. He said, “My salary, my earnings, my savings are mine, not the Consolidated Fund of India.”
‘Will take part in election campaign’
Nirmala Sitharaman said that she will campaign for various candidates in the Lok Sabha elections. “I will also participate in many media programs and tomorrow I will go to campaign for Rajiv Chandrashekhar and yes, I will be in the campaign.” Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases from April 19. The results of the elections will come on June 4.
