New Delhi. Zakia Wardak, Consulate General of Afghanistan’s Consulate in India, has resigned from her post. He is accused of allegedly trying to smuggle 25 kg of gold from Dubai to India. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized gold at Mumbai Airport, the value of which is said to be more than Rs 18 crore.
Zakia Wardak released a statement announcing her resignation. He said that in the last year I have faced many personal attacks and defamation, which were not only towards me, but also towards my close family and relatives.
Zakia further said that these attacks, which appeared to be organized, have seriously affected my ability to conduct my role effectively and demonstrate the challenges faced by women in Afghan society who are vulnerable to ongoing campaigning. She said that the allegations against her did not surprise her as she was already prepared for such attacks in public life, but such allegations are part of an attempt to defame her. I was not prepared for the impact it would have on the people close to me.
Zakia says that she has worked to bring positive change in her country, but considering the current situation, she has taken the difficult decision to resign from her post. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for the warm welcome and unwavering support extended to me during my tenure.
