Patra apologized for his mistake regarding Lord Jagannath by sharing a video on social media platform X around 1 am in the night. He wrote, “Today I am deeply troubled by my mistake committed in relation to Lord Jagannath. I bow my head at the feet of Lord Jagannath and seek forgiveness. To atone for my mistake and repent, I will fast for the next three days. “
He further said, “During PM Modi’s visit to Puri, I was interacting with several media colleagues amidst the huge crowd on the Grand Road of Puri. At the same time while talking to a news channel, I accidentally heard ‘God’s Instead of ‘Modi’s devotee Jagannath’ it was said ‘Jagannath’s devotee Modi.’ For this mistake, I bow down at the feet of Lord Jagannath and apologize and will fast for the next 3 days to repent for this mistake.”
‘Unintentional mistake’
Speaking to news agency ANI, Patra said, “This is not possible; no person can say that God is a devotee of any human being. The mistake happened inadvertently while giving the byte to a channel. I agree with this.” That my statement has hurt the sentiments of some people, but even God forgives a person when he commits a mistake unknowingly. He said, “I never had any intention of making such a mistake, but still because Mahaprabhu Jagannath And I am an ardent devotee like hundreds and thousands of Odia people, I feel that for this unintentional mistake I should apologize and do penance to God.”
Naveen Patnaik criticized
As soon as Patra made this comment, big opposition leaders like Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal took the BJP and Patra to task. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in an ex-post criticized Sambit Patra for hurting the ‘identity’ of Odia. He wrote in the post, “Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath is the Lord of the universe. Calling Mahaprabhu a ‘devotee’ of any other human being is an insult to God… It is completely condemnable.” This has hurt the sentiments and the faith of crores of Jagannath devotees and Oriya people across the world.
Patnaik said, “God is the biggest symbol of Oriya identity. I strongly condemn this statement and I appeal to the BJP to keep God above any political discussion. By doing this you have deeply hurt Oriya identity.” And it will be remembered and condemned by the people of Odisha for a very long time.”
Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal also attacked
