ICC has changed the rules for the Women’s World Cup 2022. The International Cricket Council has said that a team can take to the field with only nine players if the players are infected with corona. The ICC has made these changes in the rules so that even if the players have corona during the tournament, the match does not stop and the tournament can go on smoothly. Along with this, the ICC has decided that if a match is tied, its result will be determined through Super Over. If the super over is also a tie, then there will be another super over and super overs will continue till the result of the match is declared.
Earlier, half of India’s team was corona infected during the Under-19 World Cup. In this situation, India had put its team in the field with great difficulty. However, during this time Team India had to play against teams like Uganda and Ireland. Because of this, Team India easily won both the matches, but this will not happen in the Women’s World Cup. To avoid this situation, the ICC has issued a new rule for all the teams. The Women’s World Cup will be played in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.
Speaking on this, Chris Tetley, head of ICC events, said, “From the perspective of Corona, we need to give more leeway. Especially as we are playing matches in these difficult conditions.”
Teams will reach the World Cup with more players
Chris Tetley said that in this World Cup, officially the number of players in the team is only 15, but as a reserve, teams can add many additional players with them. In such a situation, if there are cases of corona in any team, then reserve players can be included in the team. In the league matches, all the teams will play one match each and after that the first four teams will be decided.
Matches will be changed if needed
If the cases of corona increase and it becomes difficult to organize a match between any two teams, then those matches will be organized later. However, every team is expected to show complete resilience. The winner will not be decided on the basis of the number of boundaries in this tournament, as was the case in the 2019 World Cup. In any match, until the result is known, there will be super overs.
