The Hague: The United Nations International Court of Justice has given a big order to Israel (ICJ) regarding the massacre of Palestinians in Rafah, Gaza. ICJ has ordered Israel to immediately stop its military operation in the southern city of Rafah in Gaza. This decision of ICJ is binding on Israel. However, ICJ is also worried about how it will be followed. In this case, Israel has been saying that it has the right to protect itself from Hamas terrorists.
Israel’s troubles may increase after this order of the International Court of Justice, as now global pressure has increased on it to stop the war against Hamas in Gaza. For the third time, a bench of 15 judges of the ICJ has issued a preliminary order on Friday to reduce the number of casualties and reduce human suffering in Gaza. The orders are legally binding, but the court has no power to implement them.
ICJ said stop the attacks immediately
The judges of the United Nations’ top court on Friday gave this historic emergency decision on a petition filed by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide. In this, Israel has been ordered to immediately stop its military attack on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. However, the International Court of Justice has no means to enforce its orders. In such a situation, it does not seem likely that Israel will follow this decision. But now its biggest ally, the United States, will also be under pressure to stop the war.
The judge read the verdict like this
Reading out the verdict, World Court President Nawaf Salam said the situation in the Palestinian enclave had worsened since the court ordered Israel to take steps to improve it. Israel must now immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah and any other actions that could be disastrous for the lives of the Palestinian people in Gaza. “Israel did not provide adequate information during the evacuation process about the safety of the population or the availability of food, water, sanitation and medicine for the 800,000 Palestinians who had already fled Rafah,” Salam said. “As a result, the court finds that Israel has not adequately addressed and alleviated the concerns raised by its military offensive in Rafah.” (Reuters)
