Rajgarh. Congress leader Digvijay Singh, contesting from Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh Lok Sabha seat, said on Sunday that he is trying to get 400 people to file nominations so that the elections can be held through ballot paper. Singh said this during a street meeting in Kachnaria village of Susner after asking people what they wanted, whether the elections should be held through EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) or through ballot paper. Singh told the crowd chanting slogans of election through ballot paper that ‘there is only one way for this (election through ballot paper). If 400 candidates fill nomination forms. I am preparing for this. General category candidates will have to deposit a security deposit of Rs 25,000, while people from reserved categories will have to deposit Rs 12,500.
Digvijay Singh said that in this way elections will be held in Rajgarh through ballot paper, let’s see what happens. Each EVM can have a maximum of 384 candidates including NOTA per constituency. A total of 16 candidates including NOTA can come in one ballot unit and 24 such units can be connected simultaneously to the control unit. Singh was speaking on the first day of his eight-day ‘Vaida Nibhao Yatra’ march. Singh has opposed the use of EVMs for elections and blamed its presence for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory.

In the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh, a BJP leader from Durg wrote a letter to the Election Commission demanding action against former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for speaking about the move to disrupt EVMs. Baghel is the Congress candidate from Rajnandgaon. In the letter, the BJP leader accused Baghel of telling party workers that ‘if more than 384 candidates contest from one seat, the Election Commission will be forced to conduct the elections through ballot paper.’
