Rishabh Chaurasia/Lucknow:In view of the increasing cases of lung cancer in India, health experts at a workshop organized in Lucknow stressed on early detection and timely treatment of this deadly disease. The workshop on this topic was organized at IMA Bhawan in collaboration with Indian Society for Study of Lung Cancer (ISSLC), Respiratory Medicine Department of KGMU, Lucknow Chest Club and Indian Chest Society UP Chapter.
The main speaker in the workshop, Dr. Surya Kant, Chairman of the Respiratory Medicine Department of KGMU, said that the symptoms of lung cancer and TB are often similar. Wrong treatment is started considering the disorder in the respiratory tubes due to smoking as a symptom of pulmonary TB. is done. Due to these similar symptoms, delay in identification of a patient with lung cancer becomes a major cause of death.

Dr. Suryakant said that in India, lung cancer accounts for 6% of all cancers and 8% of cancer-related deaths. Globally, approximately 2 million new lung cancer patients are diagnosed each year, of which 1.8 million die each year.

Padmashree Dr. D. Behera, President, Indian Society for Study of Lung Cancer (ISSLC), discussed in detail the status of lung cancer in India, its risk factors and new methods of diagnosis. He also highlighted the different mutations occurring in tumor types and the latest chemotherapy techniques in cancer treatment.

Dr. Deepti Mishra from Kalyan Cancer Institute delivered a lecture on the latest advances in molecular biomarkers and the role of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of lung cancer. Dr. Shiv Rajan, Oncosurgeon, KGMU, discussed the management strategies at different stages of cancer, while Dr. Jyoti Bajpai explained the importance of targeted chemotherapy.
