Stokes took retirement from the ODI format in the year 2022 due to not being able to manage the continuous cricket and workload. Earlier, he had landed on the field to play his last ODI on 19 July 2022 against South Africa. However, a few days ago, Stokes made up his mind to return to ODIs keeping the World Cup in mind.
Stokes is the captain of the test team
Ben Stokes is currently the number one all-rounder in the world. Stokes has also played an important role in England winning the ODI and T20 World Cups. Stokes had undoubtedly retired from the ODI format but he was seen playing for England in T20 and Test formats. Stokes is also the captain of England in Test cricket.
England scored 291 runs
In the first ODI match against New Zealand, the England cricket team, batting first, scored 291 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Apart from Ben Stokes, David Malan, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone also played half-centuries for England.
Malan played an innings of 54 runs in 53 balls, in which he hit 9 fours. Apart from this, Jos Buttler scored 72 runs in 68 balls while Livingstone scored a stormy inning of 52 runs in 40 balls.
Whereas in bowling, Rachin Ravindra took maximum three wickets for New Zealand. Apart from this, Tim Southee took two wickets while Lockie Ferguson got one success.
