There have been 55 cases of corona in the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan visited the vaccination center in Chennai on Saturday and said the situation was under control. Radhakrishnan said that out of 1,420 people, 55 people have been isolated so far. These are all very stable and very mild cases of COVID-19. He said that the administration is effectively utilizing the isolation facility already available in the campus.
According to Radhakrishnan, till Friday, the total number of infection cases in IIT-M was 30. He said that the number of cases has increased to 55. The samples have been sent for genome sequencing. Hopefully the results of the analysis will come in 2-3 weeks.
‘Mask mandatory not withdrawn’
When asked about the restrictions on face masks, he said, “Tamil Nadu has never withdrawn the requirement of masks. Only the process of imposing fines was slowed down, which we have implemented again.” He said that one should not stop being alert knowing that 93 per cent of the population has been given the first dose and 77 per cent have received the second dose.
‘Special drive launched for booster dose’
The health secretary said, “Those who are eligible for a booster dose should start getting it. Hence, we are running a special drive, which will be monitored by Chief Minister MK Stalin himself. The state has adequately upgraded its medical infrastructure. 2,099 very high class ICU beds have been deployed under the Emergency COVID Response Package. So there is no need to panic.”
