Jaipur . Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that HPCL Rajasthan Refinery is the biggest project of the state after Indira Gandhi Canal Project. The petro-chemical complex being built along with the refinery at Pachpadra (Barmer) will develop Rajasthan as a hub of petroleum based industries and generate a large amount of employment. He said that not only oil would come out here, but petroleum by-products would also come out along with it, which would bring investment in the state and create immense potential for various industries.
Gehlot was reviewing the progress of Rajasthan Refinery on Tuesday. He said that petroleum refinery is a big dream for the development of the entire state including western Rajasthan, which faced many hurdles. After the long struggle of the people of the area and the efforts of our government, this project has now gained momentum, which efforts will be made to complete it on time. He directed the officials of HPCL to accelerate the project work by increasing the resources.
The Chief Minister said that an inter-departmental working group should be formed involving all the departments related to the project and the officials of HPCL so that the issues related to the petro-chemical complex along with the refinery could be resolved in time. The Chief Minister also inquired about the progress of nine major refinery units and four major petro-chemical units. Along with this, instructions were also given to develop industrial area around the refinery and to speed up the works of greenery development. He emphasized on encouraging the youth to set up small units here and for wide publicity about ancillary units.
Gehlot said that this ambitious project will give impetus to the development of western Rajasthan. He urged to take appropriate steps in the direction of maintaining law and order situation in the area and to instill confidence in the investors coming here, in view of the prospects of urban development in Pachpadra and Balotra in future, to prepare an action plan, to train the local youth and refinery. Instructions have been given to make more and more information about the by-products available to the general public.
Chief Secretary Smt. Usha Sharma said that the progress of the refinery is being monitored regularly. Many problems have been solved by the district administration at the local level so that the pace of work does not slow down. Shri MK Surana, CMD, HPCL made a presentation on the progress made so far by various units of the project. He said that Rajasthan Refinery is the biggest project in the country in the oil sector. The refinery and petro-chemical complex construction work is going on simultaneously. He said that 43 per cent of the works have been completed so far by spending Rs 15,225 crore in this refinery costing Rs 43,129 crore with a capacity of 9 MMTPA. Out of 9 major refinery units, the work of 6 units will be completed by March 2023. Efforts will be made to complete the work of remaining units on time. He said that about 20 thousand people are engaged in employment in the project. Green belt is being developed in the petro-chemical complex covering an area of 300 kms. Township, school and hospital building will also be built near the refinery. Vikhar Kamalakar Rajaram, CEO, HPCL-Rajasthan Refinery Limited informed that 4 petro-chemical units are being built in this project.
