Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan has suffered a setback just a day before the no-confidence motion. Imran Khan’s cabinet minister Shahjahan Bugti, who is facing the threat of going to the government, has resigned. He was the leader of the Jamuri Watan Party of Balochistan and was a cabinet minister in Imran Khan’s government. The Jamuri Watan Party was an ally in the coalition government of Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party. A resolution against Imran Khan is going to be tabled in the Parliament of Pakistan on Monday. The motion was to be tabled on Friday itself, but due to the adjournment of the House, it was decided to present it on Monday.
On the one hand, Shahjahan Bugti has left Imran Khan, while on the other hand he has joined the Pakistan Democratic Movement, which is opposing Imran Khan. Shahjahan Bugti is the grandson of Akbar Bugti, a prominent leader of the Balochistan Movement. Akbar Bugti was assassinated by the Pakistan Army in 2006 due to the Balochistan Movement. Shahjahan Bugti has left Imran Khan’s cabinet at a time when he is about to hold a big rally in Islamabad. This rally is being seen as a show of strength by Imran Khan.
There are a total of 342 members in the Parliament of Pakistan. For any party to form the government, it must have the support of 172 MPs. On the other hand, the opposition claims that Imran Khan has only 150 MPs. On one hand, it has been decided by the opposition to present a no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan government, while Imran Khan is asking his supporters to gherao the National Assembly. Imran Khan took power in 2018 with the claim of creating a new Pakistan. However, Imran Khan is surrounded by economic crisis and unemployment.
