Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has for the first time openly named a person who is allegedly involved in a ‘conspiracy’ against him. In fact, earlier he had only accused America behind the toppling of his government. But this time he has also given the name of the person who according to him is behind the toppling of the government.
Imran Khan claimed on Sunday that US diplomat Donald Lu conspired with the opposition and tried to topple his government through a no-confidence motion. Addressing the meeting of the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, he said that there was foreign interference in the internal politics of the country through the no-confidence motion.
He claimed that Donald Lu, the top US official for South Asia at the US State Department, conspired with the opposition to topple his government. These allegations of Imran have been rejected by the opposition leaders and the US. Leaders of Pakistan’s opposition parties termed Khan’s allegation as baseless.
Who is Donald Lu?
Donald Lu is a US diplomat. He has been serving as the Deputy Foreign Minister for South and Central Asian Affairs since 2021. He has previously served as the United States Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan from 2018 to 2021 and the United States Ambassador to Albania from 2015 to 2018.
In fact, Imran had earlier claimed that the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition was the result of a “foreign conspiracy” to oppose his foreign policy and money was being supplied from abroad to oust him from power. On Wednesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed that the allegations of foreign conspiracy against Prime Minister Imran are based on a diplomatic letter received from a Pakistan mission abroad. Meanwhile, The Dawn newspaper claimed that the purported letter was sent by the then Ambassador of Pakistan to the US, Asad Majeed, on the basis of his meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu. However, the US has denied all these allegations.
