Imran Khan’s biggest ally Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has left his side. And after that his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has gone below the majority figure of 172. A report by Geo News suggests that with 177 MPs, the opposition now has more numbers in Parliament. And the opposition no longer needs the support of disgruntled PTI MPs. On the other hand, the Imran government is left with the support of only 164 MPs.
Many leaders left even before MQM
Independent Mohammad Aslam Bhutani withdrew support to the Imran Khan government. He took this decision after meeting Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Earlier, PML-Q MP and Federal Housing Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema has decided to vote in support of the opposition’s no-confidence motion.

The National Assembly of Pakistan consists of 342 members. Mane Imran Khan would need 172 seats to remain in the government. Imran Khan currently has the support of 164 MPs. In this, Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has 155 members.
The Imran government has the support of 4 MPs of Pakistan Muslim League-Qaid (PML-Q), 3 of Grand Democratic Alliance and 1 of Awami Muslim League Pakistan and 1 MP of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). This makes the total number 164 which is 8 seats away from the majority.
Now about the opposition parties
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML(N) is the largest opposition party with 84 seats. It is followed by 56 members of the Pakistan People’s Party. Apart from these 140 seats, the opposition parties have the support of 37 more MPs. Suppose the opposition parties have more seats than the majority.
