In politics, it cannot be said when the camel will sit on which side. An interesting development has also taken place on the political field amidst heated discussions about the incident of lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab in the past.
The elections to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation were held recently. In the 35-seat Municipal Corporation, Aam Aadmi Party’s candidates won 14 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 seats, Congress on 8 seats and Akali Dal candidate won one seat. AAP had emerged as the largest party and it was believed that AAP’s candidate would become the mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. However, no party got a clear majority.
The Congress party had made up its mind not to field its own candidate and abstain from the election. But in order to avoid horse-trading in the election of the mayor, all the major parties had sent their winning candidates to the nearby resort. Congress councilors were sent to Jaipur, AAP stayed in Delhi and BJP kept its councilors in Shimla.

Meanwhile, Devendra Singh Babla joined the BJP along with his councilor wife K Harpreet Kaur Babla after being expelled from the Congress before voting in the mayor’s election. At the same time, BJP MP Kiran Khair also had the right to cast one vote. In such a situation, the figures are in favor of BJP and its candidate Sarabjit Kaur has become the mayor. However, AAP has leveled allegations of rigging in the election of the mayor.
