New Delhi: The excitement regarding the Lok Sabha elections has intensified in the country. The first phase of elections for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is starting from April 19, which will continue till June 1 and counting of votes will be done on June 4. The second phase of elections will begin on April 26. A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has come out regarding this second phase of elections, in which it has been found that out of the total candidates contesting in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, 250 (21%) are facing criminal cases. .
1198 candidates in the fray
Please note that a total of 1198 candidates are in the fray in the second phase. ADR has analyzed the affidavits of 1192 candidates. Six candidates could not be included as their affidavits were not clear. ADR informed on Tuesday that out of 1192 candidates in the second phase, 250 (21%) have criminal cases registered against them. While 390 (33%) candidates are crorepatis. Also, the average assets of the candidates have been estimated at ₹5.17 crore.
How many rich in which party?
Out of 1192 candidates, 33% i.e. 390 candidates are crorepatis. Among them, 64 from BJP, 62 from Congress, 5 from JDU, 4 from TMC, 4 from Shiv Sena UTB, 4 from Samajwadi Party, 3 from Shiv Sena, 12 from CPI(M), and 2 candidates from CPI are crorepatis. If their average is taken, then in the second phase of Lok Sabha in 2024, each candidate has an average asset of Rs 5.17 crore. Talking about party wise figures, 68 Congress candidates have the highest average assets of Rs 39.70 crore.
These 3 candidates have the least assets
In this phase of elections, 6 candidates have declared their assets as zero. Whereas, 3 candidates have declared their assets between Rs 500 to Rs 1,400. Please note that Laxman Nagorao Patil, who is contesting as an independent candidate from Nanded seat in Maharashtra with Rs 500, is the candidate who has declared the least assets. Meanwhile, independent candidate Rajeshwari K.R. from Kasargod Lok Sabha constituency of Kerala. Has declared his assets to be only Rs 1,000. Whereas Prithvi Samrat Mukindrao, the independent candidate from Amravati seat of Maharashtra, has declared his total assets as Rs 1,400.
These 3 candidates have the highest assets
Venkatraman Gowda is the first among the top 3 candidates who have declared maximum assets in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. Gowda, the Congress candidate from Mandya seat in Karnataka, has movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 622 crore. At the second place is D.K. Suresh, the Congress candidate from Bengaluru Rural seat of Karnataka, who has assets worth more than Rs 593 crore. While the third richest BJP candidate is Hema Malini. Hema Malini from Mathura Lok Sabha seat has movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 278 crore.
Criminal background of candidates
In their election affidavits, 250 out of 1192 (21%) candidates have given information about criminal cases pending against them. Out of 1192 candidates, 167 (14%) have reported serious criminal cases against them. At the same time, 32 candidates have given information about the cases they have been convicted of. 3 candidates have declared cases related to murder under IPC-302. There are 25 candidates in the list who have given information about cases related to atrocities on women. Out of these 25 candidates, a case related to rape has been registered against one candidate under IPC-376. Apart from this, 21 candidates have informed about cases related to inflammatory speech against them.
How many criminal leaders are there in which party?
Criminal cases are registered against all the 5 candidates of CPI in the second phase. At the same time, all 4 candidates of Samajwadi Party, 14 out of 18 candidates of CPI(M), 2 out of 3 candidates of Shiv Sena, 35 out of 68 candidates of Congress, 2 out of 4 candidates of Shiv Sena UBT, 31 out of 69 candidates of BJP, and Criminal cases are pending against 2 out of 5 candidates. Apart from this, serious criminal cases are registered against 3 candidates of CPI, 2 of Samajwadi Party, 7 of CPI(M), 22 of Congress, 21 of BJP, 1 each of Shiv Sena, UBT and JDU.
45 percent studied till 5th and 12th
If we talk about the education qualification of the candidates of this phase, then 533 (45%) candidates have studied between 5th and 12th. 574 (48%) candidates have declared their qualification as Graduation or above. Whereas, 37 candidates have done Diploma. Whereas only 37 candidates are literate and 8 candidates are illiterate. At the same time, there are 3 candidates who have not declared their qualifications.
