India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka is facing a severe shortage of resources. Due to various resources, many plants have to be closed and essential fuel has not been imported. Due to this, the situation is such that the country has to deal with electricity cuts for a few hours all the time.
Giving information about the whole situation, Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union (CEBEU) said that due to lack of fuel, electricity is not being produced. According to CEBEU member Eranga Kudaheva, there will be a two-hour power cut on Tuesday from 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
While interacting with the media, Kudaheva said that a power plant is completely closed due to shortage of furnace oil. Whereas the Barge Power Plant at Colombo Port also has only 6 to 7 hours of furnace oil left to generate electricity. Kudaheva said that only two and a half days of furnace oil is left in the Uthuru Janani Power Station, which came to Chunakaam in Jaffna, while three and a half days of diesel is left in the Kelanitissa plant.
It is noteworthy that Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe shortage of foreign exchange. As a result, there is a significant shortage of dollars needed for fuel. This is the reason why it is unable to supply fuel and furnace oil. Apart from this, due to non-availability of water stock in the reservoirs, the hydropower stock has also been affected a lot. At the beginning of January, the fuel near Apple had run out. After which the board had directed the power cut of 1 hour and 45 minutes. However, after some time the fuel stock was supplied by CPC. Due to which this decision was postponed for some time for some time.
