The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Dharamsala on Saturday (26 February). Team India leads the series 1-0 after a blistering 62-run victory in the first T20 played in Lucknow on 24 February. They will be eyeing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series by winning the second match. Captain Rohit Sharma would not like to make much change in the team in the second match.
Doubt remains on the play of Rituraj Gaikwad, who was injured before the first match. At the same time, Sanju Samson can be given a chance. He did not get a chance to bat in the first match. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav may return to the team. He may get a chance to replace Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal has been playing matches continuously for the last few days. So they can be rested.
Rituraj had an injury on his wrist
Rituraj Gaikwad suffered a wrist injury while batting in the nets before the first T20I. He was all set to open with Rohit Sharma. Due to the unfortunate injury, Sanju Samson got a chance to play. Samson did not get a chance to bat with Rohit and Ishan Kishan’s 111-run partnership. Ravindra Jadeja was preferred in his place. Now it remains to be seen whether Rohit brings young Rituraj into the team or gives Samson a chance.
Samson will get life
For Samson, the second T20 match can be like a lifeblood. He has got opportunities many times before, but Samson has failed to take advantage of them. Now that they get a chance, they would like to play a big innings and defend their place. Avesh Khan can be given a chance in this match instead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. By resting Bhuvneshwar, Rohit would like to give one more chance to this young bowler. Avesh had a disappointing T20I debut against West Indies.
Fast bowler Binura Fernando may get a chance
Talking about the Sri Lankan team, left-arm fast bowler Binura Fernando can get a chance to play. The Sri Lanka medical team has given him the green signal to play. He may get a chance to play in place of Dushmantha Chameera or Lahiru Kumara. Vanindu Hasaranga has returned to Sri Lanka. He will not play in the series. Kushal Mending and Mahish Teekshna are yet to fully recover from the injury. Niroshal Dickwella and Dhananjay de Silva have been included in the T20 squad.
