India bundled out Sri Lanka for 174 in the first innings and took a 400-run lead. Team India scored 574 runs in the first innings. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja played the most important role in reducing Sri Lanka to a low score. He also did wonders with ball after bat and took five wickets for 41 runs in 13 overs. Jadeja also played an unbeaten innings of 175 runs.
Jadeja became the sixth player in the world to score 150 plus runs and take five wickets in an innings. He is the first player to do so in the last 49 years. Earlier in 1973, Mushtaq Mohammad of Pakistan did this feat against New Zealand. Then he scored 201 runs in the innings against the Kiwi team and also took five wickets for 49 runs. Since then only Jadeja has been able to do this feat.

Vinoo Mankad first player to make this record
Former India cricketer Vinoo Mankad was the first player to make this record. He made this record against England in 1952. Then Vinu took five wickets for 184 runs and 196 runs in the innings. Apart from this, Atkinson of West Indies did the same in 1955. He scored 219 runs in the innings against Australia and also took five wickets for 56 runs.
Jadeja becomes third Indian player to make record
Jadeja is the third player for India to score 150 plus runs in an innings and take five wickets in the innings. Apart from him and Vinoo Mankad, Paul Umrigar did this in 1962. He scored an unbeaten 172 against the West Indies and also took five wickets for 107 runs. Vinu at Lord’s, Umrigar at Port of Spain and Jadeja at Mohali.
Jadeja took five wickets in the innings after four years
Jadeja took five wickets in the innings for the first time since 2017. Earlier in August 2017, he took five wickets in the innings against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Then he took five wickets for 152 runs.
