new Delhi . India and Indonesia on Thursday held talks on cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime, defense and cyber security and signed a memorandum of understanding for security dialogue.
India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval co-chaired the 2nd India-Indonesia Security Dialogue with Mohamed Mahfood, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
The Indian Embassy in Indonesia said they discussed issues including cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime, defense and cyber sectors.
Doval and Mehfood signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Security Dialogue to further strengthen cooperation on political and security issues.
He also met Indonesian Foreign Minister Ibu Retno Masurdi and exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues.
The two leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the embassy said in its statement.
The two countries are also enhancing bilateral defense ties with the armies conducting joint exercises.
In September last year, the Indian and Indonesian navies began a bilateral two-day maritime exercise in the Sunda Strait. Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kadmat participated in the exercise Samudra Shakti with the Indonesian Navy on 20-22 September, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing mutual understanding and interoperability in maritime operations.
The Indian Navy had earlier said, the exercise would provide an appropriate platform to share best practices and develop a common understanding of maritime security operations.
Exercise Samudra Shakti was conceived in 2018 in pursuance of India’s Act East Policy and has matured in terms of complexity in the last two editions, including Military Interdiction Operations (MIO), Cross Deck Landing, Air Defense Serials Marine operations are included.
