Work is underway on several such schemes including starting ‘Screening OPD’ at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. With this, patients from remote rural areas will also be able to get consultation from AIIMS specialists soon. If the patient is suffering from mild illness, then he will be given medicine here. He will not have to wander unnecessarily in other departments. The ‘Screening OPD’ service at AIIMS Delhi is expected to start this year.
When the ‘Screening OPD’ starts, the patient will also be sent to the concerned department after getting the tests done like MRI or City Scan according to the need from the ‘Screening OPD’ itself. They will get expert advice before going to the concerned department. At the same time, doctors will be able to start their treatment as soon as possible.
To take advantage of this facility to the patients, it is planned to install ten MRI machines and ten CT scan machines in AIIMS which will be installed only in the ‘Screening OPD’ area for OPD patients. Apart from this, there will be separate city and MRI machines for admitted patients and emergency patients. Patients coming to OPD can get quick treatment. For this, more ultrasound machines will be installed. Two of them have just arrived. It’ll take four more. There will be a total of eight machines so that the patient can be ultrasound done on the same day.
Similarly, X-ray machines have also been increased. More machines will be installed. Officials of the AIIMS Protocol Department said that with the introduction of ‘Screening OPD’, the time taken in the treatment of patients will be saved. Now patients come from their mind to register themselves by taking the time of any department. Many times the patient has some disease and they get the registration done in some other department. This gives the patient time to heal on his own.
