Due to heavy rains, flood situation has arisen in many states of the country. Floods have created havoc in Assam and more than 500 families from two villages in Jamunamukh district are forced to live on railway tracks. About 8 lakh people have been affected due to floods in the state. On the other hand, in many states of the country, people are suffering due to scorching heat and heat wave. In the past, the temperature reached close to 45 degree Celsius in states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana. However, on Friday night, a drop in temperature was recorded due to rain accompanied by strong winds. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in most states of North India has now reached below 40 degree Celsius.
The people of Changjurai and Patiya Pathar villages of Jamunamukh district, who lost almost everything in the floods, are facing a lot of trouble. The villagers, forced to live under tarpaulins, claim that they have not received much help from the state government and the district administration in the last five days. People are facing severe shortage of food and drink.
Flood victim Naseebur Rahman while talking to a TV channel said, “We got help from the government yesterday after four days. They gave us some rice, dal and oil. But some haven’t got that either.” The flood situation in Assam remains grim. More than 8 lakh people are in the grip of natural calamity in 2,585 villages in 29 districts of the state. So far, 14 people have died in floods and landslides caused by pre-monsoon rains.
Army and paramilitary forces took over command: 86,772 people have taken shelter in 343 relief camps, while another 411 relief camps are there to help the people. Army, paramilitary forces as well as national and state disaster relief forces have rescued 21,884 people from different areas by boats and helicopters in the flood-affected areas.
