In the midst of the Gyanvapi controversy, historian Irfan Habib has given a big statement. He has said that in those days work was not done secretly, but whatever used to happen was done openly. He said that the mosque was built by Aurangzeb itself after demolishing temples in Kashi and Mathura. During the survey in Gyanvapi, it has been claimed to have found a Shivling and the Muslim side, while denying the claim of the Hindu side, said that the Shivling which they are telling is a fountain.
Historian Irfan Habib has claimed, “The temples of Varanasi and Mathura were destroyed by Aurangzeb. These temples were built by Raja Vir Singh Bundela during the reign of Jahangir. Mathura and Kashi were the two major temples which were demolished by Aurangzeb. There is nothing that is new. Rather everything is recorded in history. Now the question is, how far back do you want to go?
Irfan Habib further said, “What was built in 1670, can it be broken now? If this happens then it will be against the Memorial Act. The wrong thing that Aurangzeb did, will the government do the same wrong thing now?
Irfan Habib also told the sign of the temple in the mosque. He said, “The temples which were demolished, their stones were planted in the mosques. He said that Shivling is being talked about in Gyanvapi Masjid. But in the suit that was filed, there was no mention of Shivling. At the same time, Shivling is being presented as an issue. Rana Kumbha has a big minaret in Chittor, on one of its stones, Allah is written in Arabic, so why can’t it be called a mosque?
Let us inform that during the survey, it was claimed that Shivling was found, after which the Varanasi court had ordered to seal the Vazukhana. The Muslim side has opposed this move of the court and has appealed to the court to remove the ban on the Wazukhana. On the other hand, the Muslim side has also opposed the survey.
