In the civic elections held in Haryana on Sunday, more than 70 percent voting was done for 28 municipal committees and 18 municipal councils. Its results will be declared on June 22. Let us tell you that while the ruling BJP-JJP alliance is excited about this election, the Aam Aadmi Party is looking at the Congress as a golden opportunity to withdraw from the fray.
Apart from the ruling BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) alliance in the Haryana civic polls, candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party were in the fray on their party’s symbol. At the same time, Congress had given support to many independent candidates instead of its symbol in this election. It is believed that this move of Congress will benefit the Aam Aadmi Party. In fact, after gaining power in Delhi and Punjab, AAP’s eyes are on Haryana situated between these two states.
The Congress is the second largest party in the state after the BJP in Haryana. Even after this, the condition of Congress is bad due to constant internal strife in the party. Congress has not been able to elect organizational units at the grassroots level for the last seven-eight years due to discord. This is the reason why he did not participate in the civic polls. However, Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the party had never contested civic polls on its election symbol.
However, in this decision of Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party is seeing its own benefit. This has given him a great opportunity to establish a foothold in Haryana. In fact, AAP had to face defeat in the 2019 assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. In such a situation, after the victory in Punjab and the “walkover” of the Congress, AAP is looking for possibilities of strengthening itself in Haryana.
A senior AAP leader told The Indian Express that whatever numbers the party has in the polls, it would indicate a “sliding graph” of the BJP-JJP alliance. In this the AAP will at least occupy the position of the main opposition where the Congress was.
